About Lynette Hall Hampton

Though my name is Lynette Hall Hampton, I actually started out in this world as Martha Agnes Lynette Hall. My mother wouldn't name me Martha -- after my daddy's mother (Martha Jane) -- unless she named me Agnes -- after her mother (Mamie Agnes) -- and she was determined to name me Lynette -- because she loved the name. Bless my grandma's heart, she told Mother that she shouldn't hang the name Agnes on a baby because she'd never liked the name Agnes for herself, much less a new granddaughter. So Mother dropped the Agnes.

I was born more years ago than I intend to tell you, in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. We were poor in material things, but rich in many other ways. My parents loved books and reading and instilled this love in their children. I grew up on Bible stories, comic books, Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, Roy Rogers, fairy tales and many other forms of the written word, as well as the tales that my grandparents, aunts and uncles told.

I was in the third grade when I realized I was a writer. My teacher, Miss Lucy Coles, read to us everyday from a chapter book. She read a lot of good books, Tom Sawyer, Robinson Caruso, but it was when she read Cowgirl Kate, that I knew I would write. I went home the day she finished it and wrote my first book. It was three pages long and was a rewrite of Beauty and the Beast. Of course it never replaced the original story, but it was my start.

In the years that followed, life happened. I married. I had a child. My daughter grew up and married a wonderful man. They gave me two of the most precious grandchildren on earth. Here is a picture of them. Blaire – Age 3 and her big brother, Trent – Age 9.

I went through a divorce after a long marriage. I wrote five novels, four of which are still in my desk drawer. I sold my first mystery novel -- Jilted By Death to Silver Dagger Mysteries and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

My cat, Jefferson, and I have moved into a condo in Kernersville and we're still trying to recover. We have finished the manuscript for the second Willa Hinshaw mystery which I've titled, Echoes of Mercy. Now we're compleating MURDER IN SC, the second in another series. We've also finished a romantic suspense, DUO OF OPPOSITES which will be out in early 2006.

So with all this writing, and promoting the books which are in print, getting ready for the holidays, and still trying to get all the boxes unpacked, it looks like we're going to have a busy winter.
